Option one: Historic Tour

TOUR DESCRIPTION
This tour gives the visitor an idea of Cape Town life over the last few centuries. We begin our tour with a brief history and then we move to Adderley Street where flowers have been sold for centuries. Here you are given the opportunity to interact with the sellers and hear their interesting stories. Throughout the duration of the tour we show you the influences on Cape Town by the Dutch, the indigenous Khoisan, the slave trade, the British and later the Apartheid regime. This is a fascinating walk through time and events that shaped our city and its people

THE ITINERARY

  • Our tour starts at the Cape Town Info Centre
  • We stop off at the Flower Sellers
  • We pass the old Reservoir before crossing over to the Grand Parade
  • We view the City Hall then move on to Spin street to view the slave memorials and Groote Kerk (Big Church directly translated)
  • Walk through the Company Gardens to view various historic sites
  • We sample a local delicacy
  • Greenmarket Square to view the old Town House
  • Time permitting, we visit the Bo-Kaap area
  • Walk to St Stephen’s Church and Heritage Square
  • Return to the Cape Town Info Centre where the tour ends

WHAT YOU NEED
Please ensure that you bring along sun block, a wide-brimmed hat, a bag to safely store your precious items and wear comfortable shoes. Please advise if you are averse to any particular foodstuffs

WHAT WE DO & DON’T OFFER
We offer a free snack pack for the journey; a local delicacy tasting and photographs of the day will be uploaded to Facebook, if required. Parties of 4 or more pay a reduced fee. Any donations & transfers, gratuities, refreshments and lunches are for your own account

Option two: Wine & Culture Tour

TOUR DESCRIPTION
Experience the local city culture and a wine tasting at Cape Town’s only winery operating in the city

THE ITINERARY

  • Our tour starts at the Cape Town Info Centre
  • Walk through Greenmarket Square on the way to the Company’s Garden
  • We view a number of historic sites in the Garden and sample a local delicacy
  • We walk to Bo-Kaap and visit the Bo-Kaap museum
  • Stop at Streetwires to view the local products
  • Walk to Signal Hill wines for a wine tasting
  • A brief tour of Heritage Square and we view St Stephen’s Church
  • On our return we visit a few traders
  • The tour ends at the Cape Town Info Centre

WHAT YOU NEED
Please ensure that you bring along sun block, a wide-brimmed hat, a bag to safely store your precious items and wear comfortable shoes

Costs of the tour include a single wine tasting, a local delicacy, Bo-Kaap museum entry fees, a free snack pack for the journey and photographs of the day will be uploaded to Facebook, if required. Option three: Architectural Tour

TOUR DESCRIPTION
This tour takes in a fascinating view of the unique architectural styles in Cape Town. We visit two historic townhouses along the way and view various unique buildings and structures

THE ITINERARY

  • Our tour starts at the Castle of Good Hope entrance
  • We view City Hall and the Moth Hall
  • We pass the old Granary (Dutch East India Company grain store)
  • Along Buitenkant street to view the various interesting Victorian buildings
  • We visit Rust en Vreugd (a beautifully restored 18th century townhouse)
  • Walk along Darling street via the Roman Catholic Cathedral
  • View Tuinhuis (the occasional Presidential office)and a glimpse of the old Masonic Lodge
  • Into the Company’s Garden for a  tea break (for your own account)
  • In the Gardens, we view the Great Synagogue
  • We view the Lion’s Gate and an Egyptian-style building
  • We visit Bertrams House (restored Edwardian townhouse)
  • Return through the Company’s Garden to view the Parliament buildings, Public Library and St George’s Cathedral
  • Lunch stop (for your own account)
  • On our return we visit Greenmarket Square to view the old Town House
  • Down into Adderley street to view the Groote Kerk (Big Church)
  • We pass the Old Mutual building (Cape Revival style building with fascinating frieze) before returning to the Castle of Good Hope where the tour ends
