This route is spectacularly scenic and follows the coastline before reaching Cape Point. Chapman’s Peak drive is regarded as one of the most dramatic coastal routes in the world, you won’t be disappointed! Many interesting stops are scheduled along the way with the ultimate send-off at Signal Hill viewpoint

WHERE DOES THE TOUR BEGIN

THE ITINERARY

  • Our tour starts at your residence or at the V & A Waterfront [Info Centre]
  • The route follows the coast along Beach Road
  • Quick stop at Maiden’s Cove for some photographs
  • Through Camps Bay
  • We pass Llandudno beach
  • Stop to photograph the Leopard statue at Hout Bay
  • Stop at a scenic point along Chapman’s Peak
  • Tea break en route
  • Arrive at Cape Point
  • Funicular (or walk) up to the old Cape Point Lighthouse
  • Return via Simon’s Town for a brief stop at Jubilee Square
  • Stop at Kalk Bay harbour
  • Continue along scenic Boyes drive where we stop at the Shark Spotter hut
  • Return to Cape Town city to end the day off with the perfect view from Signal Hill

Option two: Lighthouse and Shipwreck Route

TOUR DESCRIPTION
Many ships have been wrecked on this stretch of South Africa’s coastline and our tour gives the visitor an opportunity to visit several lighthouses and view shipwrecks littered along the way

WHERE DOES THE TOUR BEGIN

THE ITINERARY

  • Our tour starts at your residence or at the V & A Waterfront [Info Centre]
  • First stop is a brief one at the old Mouille Point lighthouse base
  • We pass the Athens wreck
  • We tour the Greenpoint lighthouse
  • A brief stop at the Antipolis wreck (only viewed during calm seas)
  • Take a boat trip to Cormorant Island in Hout Bay to view the Boss 400 wreck
  • We take a detour to the Slangkop lighthouse at Kommetjie
  • Drive to Cape Point, late lunch at the Two Oceans restaurant
  • We take the funicular up to see the old Cape Point lighthouse
  • Time permitting, we walk to the new Cape Point lighthouse view site
  • Stop to view the Roman Rock lighthouse and Clan Stuart wreck at Simon’s Town
  • Return to V & A Waterfront where the tour ends

  • Visit the Lourensford wine estate, time permitting
  • Return to V & A Waterfront where the tour ends

Another beautiful drive along Cape Town’s unique coastline which includes stopovers at the charming Kalk Bay harbour, the naval town of Simon’s Town, a visit to a penguin colony and ostrich farm before arriving at Cape Point

  • Drive along the M3 Blue Route to view Mostert’s Mill, Rhodes Memorial
  • Take the scenic Boyes Drive down to Kalk Bay
  • Stop at the Shark Spotter’s hut
  • Stop for refreshments at the Kalk Bay Harbour (take in the seals & cormorants and watch the fishermen’s catch being prepared for sale)
  • Brief stop at Simon’s Town (to see Able Seaman Just Nuisance)
  • Stop at Boulders Beach to visit the African Penguin
  • Stop at Cape Point
  • Late lunch at Cape Point restaurant
  • Funicular or walk up to the old Cape Point lighthouse
  • Visit the Ostrich Farm outside the Cape Point entrance
  • Return to V & A Waterfront, via Chapman’s Peak Drive, where the tour ends

Option eight: First Nations Rural Tour

TOUR DESCRIPTION
The San were the first people to have lived in the Cape coastal area and their entire heritage has all but died out. Being hunter-gatherers, they rarely established fixed bases and today only shell middens, their tools, jewellery and beautiful rock paintings exist. The Khoi were pastoralists and they too occupied this territory. This tour celebrates the little that remains of their culture and heritage, see it while you can! You also have the opportunity of sampling Eland meat at  !Khwa Ttu, an animal greatly prized by the San

WHERE DOES THE TOUR BEGIN
We collect you from your residence if within 20 kilometres of Cape Town city

THE ITINERARY

  • Drive into the city where we visit the National Museum to view a San rock art exhibition and recent discoveries from the Blombos* cave
  • Tour the Bertrams House museum to view the Sounds and Silence of a San Archive exhibition
  • Drive to !Khwa Ttu for lunch (1 hour drive, one way)
  • Take the !Khwa Ttu tour of a nearby San village to discover their fascinating way of life and hunting techniques
  • Return to the V & A Waterfront where the tour ends

* This cave is located on the southern Cape coast and in 2008, discoveries of ancient inhabitants in the cave makes this one of the most significant San sites to date

Please note that the Blombos cave exhibit at the National Museum ends October 2014, this tour option will therefore end on 13 October 2014
